Ceanglan Chaluim Chille, Campbeltown Residency, explored cross-cultural connections between Scotland and Ireland through song with award-winning Irish sean-nós singer Clár Ní Argáin. This pilot residency has been created with communities in mind, with support from CHARTS Gaelic Culture Officer Àdhamh Ó Broin, CHARTS members and Campbeltown Museum, following the first Ceanglan Chaluim Chille on Mull with Dr Alasdair C. Whyte / Macillebhàin.
During the 3-day residency, award-winning sean-nós singer Clár Ní Argáin worked with over 87 local community members, including Kintyre Link Club (a members run mental health club), to allow them to participate in multiple workshops looking at cross-cultural musical exchange, where participants learnt Irish and Scottish Gaelic songs along with their history and discussed their cultural context in an informal and supportive environment.
The series of workshops culminated in an evening concert at the museum featuring local musicians Les Oman and Anne Leith and filmed as part of BBC Naidheachdan.
To mark the finale of the Ceanglan Chaluim Chille Campbeltown Residency and Clar’s time in Argyll, a céilidh-house style event took place on Mull at KNOCKvologan Studio.
