In February 2026, CHARTS and author-storyteller Dougie Strang presented an online storytelling evening rooted in the folklore of Kintyre and wider Argyll. The event celebrated heritage that cannot be easily represented by objects alone, using narrative to bring oral traditions, landscape and sense of place to life.
Dougie shared stories that responded to Campbeltown Museum collections and spaces, offering new ways of thinking about intangible cultural heritage. The programme was designed to appeal to local museum users, community groups, families and people drawn from across Argyll and beyond.
The online format enabled participation from audiences in Argyll, wider Scotland, England and the United States, broadening access to the region’s folklore and cultural heritage. A highlight of the evening was the strong engagement around the links between Gaelic oral tradition, landscape and the museum’s objects, including references to paintings and carved stones.
This event is supported by Culture Heritage and Arts Assembly, Argyll and Isles (CHARTS), with funding from Scottish Book Trust’s Live Literature programme, and further support from Argyll and Bute Council, liveArgyll and Creative Scotland.
