Events and Exhibitions

In partnership with liveArgyll, CHARTS works to support all aspects of Campbeltown Museum’s development. Priority delivery areas include school and community engagement, which entails creating events and activities tailored to the needs and demands of the local people. Campbeltown Museum provides a safe and warm space for events, workshops and exhibitions.

Since 2022, CHARTS has enabled new events, exhibitions and projects with the support of liveArgyll staff and The Friends of Campbeltown Museum.

Heritage Hero Awards, Argyll and Bute

In the past year, CHARTS engaged over 1,000 people in workshops at Campbeltown Museum in partnership with Live Argyll. Local schools, care homes, and community groups received awards for their involvement in various arts and heritage projects.

REFLECT | Remembering Together, Arts & Community Commission Campbeltown Museum

REFLECT linked four projects across Argyll, with artists working in partnership with local communities, heritage gardens and development trusts to design new spaces and artworks for memory and reflection. From January to August 2024, Campbeltown Museum ran workshops and hosted events in collaboration with the Campbeltown REFLECT team.

Cuairt Chaluim Chille // Touring St Columba

On loan from Donegal County Museum, Ireland, Cuairt Chaluim Chille // Touring St Columba launched its year-long tour at Campbeltown on the 9th of June, 2023. As part of the exhibition, Campbeltown Museum organised multiple events and workshops to provide interactive engagement with Campbeltown's temporary exhibition on Colmcille.

Wild Escape 2023

CHARTS collaborated with liveArgyll to participate in The Wild Escape to celebrate wildlife and creativity alongside hundreds of UK museums and schools. The project was delivered through Campbeltown Museum and led by artist Kirsten Millar, supported by project facilitator Muriel MacKaveney with assistance from the museum’s apprentice Khara MacPhail.

Tracking Native Oysters Over Time: Their Use as Gaelic Place-names

In August 2023, Campbeltown Museum hosted Tracking Native Oysters Over Time: Their Use as Gaelic Place-names. This event was led by Anna McGregor, Carly McNamara and Alsadair Whyte for sharing their knowledge and research of native oysters' role as place names and presence in Gaelic, helping to raise awareness of our coastal ecosystems.
