cross-disciplinary learning

Acting as a “museum without walls”, The Collection has been redisplayed at several schools across Argyll, extending the use of artwork to engage pupils across the curriculum, with art as a tool in English, History, Geography and Science.

In 2025, CHARTS worked with Social Subjects and Language teachers at Lochgilphead Campus to develop new cross-curricular thematic displays of work. The Argyll Collection lent itself to cross-curriculum thematic explorations, from the social history of Glasgow in the 1950s and 1960s using Joan Eardley’s Girl with a Piece, to religious and moral education using Sir Robert Phillipson’s Crucifixion. As well as thematic approaches, CHARTS ongoing work around Collections Care and Conservation acts as a springboard for work within the science curriculum, such as looking at dyes and pigments, as well as facilitating conversations around creative career pathways.
