Caring for the Collections in Schools

CHARTS has worked to create an up-to-date Inventory of the Argyll Collection. This has included condition-checking and the redistribution of works in schools across Argyll.

Inventory and Condition checking 2022-2024

The Reconnected team, Research Manager Kirsty McNab and Project Manager Rosalyn McKenna have travelled around Argyll and Bute to carry out an inventory of the Argyll Collection stored across multiple archives, libraries and schools.

“It is always exciting and a total joy to enjoy an artwork in the flesh. Details that are impossible to see in digital images become apparent, and the sense of scale, composition and colour are inspiring.” -  Rosalyn McKenna.

Redistribution of works in Schools 2024-2026

CHARTS have worked with 9 secondary schools, including Oban, Tobermory, Lochgilphead, Tarbert, Campbeltown, Helensburgh, Dunoon, Rothesay, and Islay, as well as 5 primary schools and 2 libraries.

In 2024, CHARTS Technician Sam Kilday worked with the team to deliver and install works across the region for schools outreach, such as  The Superpower of Looking, and to engage the public, including the CHARTS Island group on Bute, enabling the collection to be used by local creatives to build conversations around Bute's art, culture and heritage.
