“Argyll school children have very little chance of visiting art galleries. Even if there is an art exhibition in the few centres of population, only those who live close are likely to see it.” Naomi Mitchison, 1966
Since 2022, CHARTS has increased access and engagement with The Argyll Collection, working with both primary and secondary schools across the region to create teacher training, bring the collections into schools and work with organisations to create learning opportunities and traineeships for young people. Outreach has also included public exhibitions such as From Dawn to Dusk and Awaken, The Argyll Collection, as well as public talks and events.
Access to the collection has been enhanced through new partnership working between CHARTS and universities, including Dr Kate Cowcher, University of St Andrews, Dr Lucy Steeds, University of Edinburgh, and Prof. Christina Young, University of Glasgow, whose research helped uncover new insights and connections within The Argyll Collection.
