Keeping It Creel is an interactive learning project focused on the maritime heritage of Kintyre, encompassing themes such as fishing, shipbuilding, lighthouses/navigation, trade, and migration. The project will develop education and community engagement through raising heritage awareness and creating access to the Campbeltown Museum.
Using the museum's collection, lead artist Kate Davies will work with local communities to engage participants in the various ways the people of Kintyre have lived and worked with the sea to survive. Using this knowledge, participants will design a fisherman’s gansey, highlighting the importance of ganseys as symbols of resilience and craftsmanship in coastal areas, where stitching and patterns are passed down through generations.
Keeping it Creel is made possible by the Stafford Trust with further support from liveArgyll, Argyll and Bute Council, Creative Scotland, and Bòrd na Gàidhlig.
