Heritage Hero Awards, Argyll and Bute

Through out 2023 and 2024, CHARTS has engaged over 1,000 local people in workshops at Campbeltown Museum through project work in collaboration with Live Argyll.

Kintyre primary and secondary schools, home school groups, Kintyre Care Home, and Woodlands Residential are among those receiving awards for their involvement in various projects, including Wild Escape, REFLECT Remembering Together, and Cuairt Chaluim Chille / Touring St Columba workshops, which have included building connections between young people and intergenerational exchange.

Through over 15 workshops hosted by CHARTS at Campbeltown Museum, 271 people have achieved Heritage Heroes, explorer level awards from Archaeology Scotland

This has been made possible with support from the Gannochy Trust to CHARTS.

CHARTS plans to expand on this work offering to further celebrate achievements through participation, with new accreditation and qualification offers embedded within future projects in partnership with Campbeltown Museum and Live Argyll, creating new opportunities for people of all ages across the Mid Argyll, Kintyre and Isles area.

About Heritage Hero Awards

The Heritage Hero Award from Archaeology Scotland is an award scheme that celebrates achievements in history, heritage and archaeology projects.

The aims of the Heritage Hero Awards scheme include enhancing self-confidence and well-being through engagement with challenging heritage projects, inspiring young people to cultivate a lifelong interest in Scotland’s past, raising awareness about accessing Scotland’s heritage in schools and youth organisations and fostering connections between heritage organisations, community groups, and young people.
