English

Oliver Mezger is a moving image artist whose practice captures landscapes, time, people, and culture framed through Scots Gaelic language and translation. Working with digital video, 16mm and 35mm film, and soundscapes, their films explore Gaelic portrait-praise-poetry and the resonances of lament. Through these, Oliver addresses the cultural implications of monolingualism, displacement, and gentrification. In 2015, while artist-in-residence at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Isle of Skye, Oliver began researching and experimenting with Gaelic, uncovering rich cultural signifiers and the meaning of place. Oliver’s recent projects include a radio play written in Uig, Isle of Lewis.
