A Golden Thread: Crafting the Creative Economy from Scotland's Highlands, Islands & Lowlands is a Scotland-wide initiative supporting doctoral research and enterprise development rooted in Craft-led inquiry by encouraging connections across disciplines, materials, and communities of practice. Six funded PhD places are available through this first call, commencing November 2026. GSA welcomes proposals from those whose work engages with Craft in its many forms, from materials and making to ideas and innovation.
Guidance sessions will be held between November 2025 and January 2026. The deadline for applications will be 13 February, 2026 at 12 noon.
'A Golden Thread' is a Scotland-wide programme of doctoral research training and enterprise development support, led by GSA Rural Lab in partnership with The Open University and Scotland's Rural College (SRUC).
